The Creative Corner • Public Television Production – Hosted by Lauren Paullin
With a new public television series hosted by Lauren Paullin, Art for the Journey and VPM engage children in elementary through high school — along with adults — in interactive, hands-on art experiences. Each episode of The Creative Corner explores fresh topics through the lens of the visual and performing arts, with step-by-step instructions for activities designed to enhance learning in core subjects and align with Virginia’s Standards of Learning.

The Creative Corner was developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic — an innovative approach to home learning that broke down barriers of isolation and access to inspire learning, creativity, and well-being in homes across the region. Nearly 10,000 families across Central Virginia had little or no access to high-speed internet at home when the pandemic closed school doors, creating a resource gap that threatened to interrupt children’s education and development. Art for the Journey and VPM (Virginia’s Home for Public Media) partnered to bring The Creative Corner to life on air and online, adding quality, teacher-led arts instruction to VPM’s “VA TV Classroom” lineup.

Content on The Creative Corner focuses on arts integration, linking the arts with other domains to complement other distance-learning initiatives, and creating valuable resources for teachers as they return to classrooms around the state. Featured interviews with guests from around the globe celebrate diversity and showcase art in its many forms — including dance, theater, and music along with the visual arts — offering students a window to the world.
