Art for the Journey and The Glass Spot provide breathtaking opportunity for creative expression through glass blowing.

When were you ever allowed to play with glass? Possibly never? Last month, our veterans had an experience of a lifetime at “The Glass Spot” in Richmond, VA, for an afternoon of fun and learning. Did you know that the temperature in one of the fire stoves was more than 2000 degrees? We learned from Chris, Glass Artist and owner of the Glass spot, that glass art has been happening since the 1st century BC.  Also, that there are some works of glass art today that can sell for millions! Some of the steps were a challenge for vets that live with physical disabilities, however, these challenges were met and each created beautiful works of art! These brave individuals were able to select the colors and with the help of Chris and the staff, to roll hot glowing melted glass into colorful glass crystals, then carry the molten substance to move the glass (on the end of a strong rod) directly into the fire stove, and finally blow the glass into a shape of an orb. Once cooled these art works become an ornament to hang in the light to shine forth its beauty through the chosen colors. Everyone was happy with the amazing, beautiful and brilliant results! It was neat for each participant to witness the giving life to the molten glass through blowing that directly into each artwork, what a unique and breathtaking way to create!

This art session inspired all in attendance to embrace the art form, learn the history, and experience hands on creating this art.
