We are honored to be chosen by the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) as a national winner of their Bi-annual Grant from organizations across the country!
This grant will support Art for the Journey’s Opening Minds through Art (OMA) programming, including OMA Facilitator Training in partnership with Scripps Gerontology Center at Miami University-OH.

Opening Minds through Art (OMA) remains our flagship program. Pairing older adults with dementia and younger partners in an abstract art-making session, a mutual relationship develops to foster understanding, creativity, and empathy.
Art for the Journey has launched, resourced, and/or staffed local OMA programs in the greater Richmond region since 2016, starting at St. Mary’s Woods Retirement Community, and most recently launching in Chesterfield Public Libraries.
As Master OMA Trainers in partnership with ScrippsOMA, we have certified 330 aging professionals and volunteers as OMA Facilitators since 2017.
We are very grateful to AFJ and honored to steward these funds to support the OMA and OMA training programs in Richmond, VA.
