Art for the Journey staff and volunteers have had lots of fun over the last several weeks bringing creative projects to children from the Youth Life Foundation of Richmond. We loved watching the children’s imaginations ignite when they’re given a little bit of inspiration and a lot of love!
On Fun Friday, November 22nd, twenty-eight students learned about color and creative design while hearing two stories, “If You’re A Monster And You Know It” and “Monsters Love Colors.” Following these interactive stories, children created multimedia monsters of their own! It was wonderful to see the imaginative creatures that evolved in the course of ninety minutes using markers, oil pastels, watercolors and 3D paper sculpture!
Many thanks to Tissa Nasta and Mindi Montoro for lending a hand that day!
Students gained confidence…[and] created an amazing collection of whimsical reindeer!
On December 6th, twenty-two elementary school children heard the amusing Christmas tale, “Olive the Other Reindeer,” sang a jolly rendition of “Rudolph,” followed by a super fun painting experience… and rainbow cookies!
Students gained confidence using different sized brushes and strokes, and learned art terms such as “canvas,” “easel” and “composition.” Tissa Nasta and Michelle Farrar joined Melba Gibbs and Jamie Wigginton that Friday to create an amazing collection of whimsical reindeer!
Thank you, Mary Ellen Barton, for sending cookies and juice boxes for the kids to enjoy!
Art for the Journey’s last Fun Friday of the year was held on December 13th at Youth Life’s Learning Center located at Delmont Village Apartments. Fifteen students impressed us as they listened attentively to “Mr. Willowby’s Christmas Tree” and became engrossed in creating their own decoupaged tabletop trees. Tissue paper, sparkled pompoms, glitter and cookies put everyone in the Christmas spirit!
Thank you, Amy Click, for providing treats and Emilie Raddin, Tissa Nasta and Michelle Farrar for taking time out of your busy holiday schedule to bring joy to these awesome kids!
