“Opening Minds through Art (OMA) is an intergenerational art program for people with dementia. OMA is an award-winning, evidence-based best practice abstract art program.
In partnership with OMA founder, Dr. Elizabeth Lokon, Art for the Journey serves as a satellite training location, co-facilitates the online course and provides the “hands-on” experience with the host site at Saint Mary’s Woods Retirement Community.
Over the month long on-line course and one and a half day practicum, participants learn the why, what, and how of implementing the Scripps OMA program. Trainees will participate in hands-on art-making sessions with elders with dementia, receive the OMA Handbook with 20 art activities, training videos, evaluation tools, and more.
Certified OMA Facilitator course graduates will be well prepared and ready to provide the OMA experience for people in locations around the country.
