Hey, it’s National Intern Day!
Art for the Journey would like to celebrate our two summer interns Destiny McDonald and Lynette Mukisa who have helped us greatly this summer in our studio/administration side as well is in-person participation with our wonderful K-5 summer school students at Anna Julia Cooper School!
We celebrate interns because these hard-working individuals give time and talent and are dedicated each and every day. Hopefully they glean meaningful understanding, as they will someday enter directly into their individual careers! Some of us remember summers lounging around a pool – NOT THESE bright stars! They come in to work, bright eyed and ready to help us deliver this mission.
We are sure these two students, and all the interns who have spent time with Art for the Journey staff and volunteers, will have amazing futures, and much success! They have both earned multiple scholarship awards to the college of their choice.
Art for the Journey has enjoyed relationships with local universities and organizations such as Partnership for the Future. It is because of hard working student interns that the work at hand is scalable and impacts many lives.
Partnership for the Future is a wonderful organization that helps make first generation college education possible.

Hello, my name is Lynette Mukisa and I am very excited to be interning with Art for the Journey through Partnership for the Future! I am a recent graduate of Hermitage High School and will be attending James Madison University in the fall. I enjoy helping others and at JMU I plan on majoring in nursing. I love children and animals, and in my free time I enjoy spending time outside. Working with Art for the Journey, I hope to grow and develop my creative skills by helping plan fun and interactive lessons for the youth. I can’t wait to work alongside everyone this summer and help be a part of giving back to the community!
Hello! My name is Destiny McDonald, and I am an upcoming freshman at Johnson & Wales University. I will be majoring in baking and pastry and this will be my second summer interning at Art for the Journey. I am very grateful and happy to be working here, it provides a lot of opportunity for communication and gaining a lot of soft skills I can use in different workplaces. Art for the Journey is an amazing non-profit organization that contributes art into life and communities for all.
